Book presentation / Louis Salvator, Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus

26.01.23
19.00-20.00

The well-known publication by Louis Salvator, 'Levkosia, die Hauptstadt von Cypern', is presented in Greek for the first time by Fofi Myrianthousi-Neophytou, who based her translation on the Trigraph of London republication of 1983, preserved in the British Library.
In the pages of the book, Nicosia is presented, five years before the start of British rule, through the romantic gaze of the young Archduke Louis Salvator of Austria during his visit to Cyprus in 1873.

His comprehensive descriptions of the natural and built environment of the city, its architecture and the habits and customs as well as the occupations of the inhabitants are enlivened with detail and sensitivity in Louis’ drawings of the then fine city of the old Levant.
The edition will be presented by the Director of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.

The book is of interest for its history of the city, a nostalgic walk in the heart of Nicosia.

The book will be on sale during the presentation in the Shop of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.
It is available in soft cover for €15.00 and in hardcover for €20.00.
