Let’s make the history of Nicosia go viral!
International Museum Day approaches with a particularly topical issue: “Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Public”. Within this framework, the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia organizes a creative action titled “Take a piece of history home”.
Four Medieval Nicosia items, exhibits at the Leventis Municipal Museum, are produced in replicas and invite the public to “adopt” them for a few days. Participants will have the opportunity to take the items home, to work or school – in other words, make it a part of their daily routine. At the same time, they are asked to photographically document this process with “selfies”. Join in and let us make the history of our city go “viral!” A Medieval vessel, an engraving of Richard the Lionheart, a portrait of Caterina Cornaro and a map of Nicosia are waiting for you!
The “selfies” are to be sent to the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia by email: info@leventismuseum.org.cy. All the photographs will be posted on the Museum’s Facebook, Twitter and Instragram accounts. Participants will also need to post their photographs on their personal pages with the hashtags: @LeventisMuseum, #TakeaPieceof HistoryHome #MedievalNicosia.
The aim of this creative action is to promote history as inextricable part of our daily identity.
The photographs with the most “likes” will be presented in a small exhibition in the Museum, at the “Pandora’s Box” exhibition hall. Winners will have the opportunity to attend a special tour of the Museum’s new temporary exhibition: “Nicosia: Birth and growth of a capital. Byzantine-Medieval period”.
Those interested may collect the items from the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia (Information Area) starting from 18 May 2018.
All items must be returned to the Museum.
