“Venezia nel Oriente e Cipro”

The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, in the framework of the Medieval Nicosia Festival 2019, presents a music event titled “Venezia nel Oriente e Cipro”.

 

The music performance, “crafted” by the unique, internationally acclaimed Greek ensemble of early music, Ex Silentio, aspires to take us on a journey to La Serenissima, with sounds of secular music from Renaissance Venice, including works by Willaert, Lasso and Strozzi. Musical pieces by Greek composers in Venice like Leontarides and De Laudis will also be included in the programme. The journey to Venezia nel Oriente e Cipro will conclude with works by Martoretta and parodic Greghesche in pseudo-Greek dialect.  


The concert will take place in the premises of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia on Wednesday the 13th of March 2019, 19.00 and will be repeated on Thursday the 14th March at the same time and place. The event is organised within the framework of the Museum’s temporary exhibition “Nicosia: the birth and growth of a capital. Byzantine and Medieval period”.

 

Performing for Ex Silentio are: Fani Antonelou – vocals, Dimitris Kountouras – Renaissance flutes and Flora Papadopoulou – Renaissance harp. Dimitris Kountouras will be conducting.

 

A few words about the ExSilentio early music ensemble

Ex Silentio early music ensemble was created in 2001, specializing in early music and historical performance. The ensemble has worked with acclaimed artists in Greece and internationally, appearing in concerts, music theatre productions, contemporary dance performances and more.
