Become a donor
The first donation to the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia was made by its founder, Lellos Demetriades,† to this day the longest-serving mayor of Nicosia, who donated his personal collection of rare maps of the city. His gesture set an example to the citizens of the capital, collectors and many others, who would go on to donate items to create the Collections of the Museum.
Significant donations were made by the A. G. Leventis Foundation and the Association of the Friends of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia. Today, we count more than 300 donors, with over 10,000 donated items.
Owing to these donations, the Leventis Municipal Museum serves as a landmark for the capital of Cyprus and is worthily characterised as the civic history museum of Nicosia.
The Museum accepts donations of items that pertain to its Collections, the social life of Nicosia and other objects that are broadly related to the history of Cyprus, such as:
- historical archives related to the history of Nicosia
- memorabilia
- engravings and maps
- photographic material
- garments, woven textiles and embroideries
- furniture
- ceramics
- jewellery
- coins, seals and emblems
- toys
- other items of historical content which are evidence of the rich history of Nicosia
To donate an item, please contact the Museum (+357 22661475 or by email: info@leventismuseum.org.cy) to consult with the Museum’s curators and schedule a meeting.
Once evaluated by the Museum, the item you wish to donate is then recorded in the Archive of the A. G. Leventis Foundation.
The name of the donor is entered into the Collection Records of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and inscribed on the display label accompanying the exhibit, as well as in all published references to the object.
