Caterina Cornaro
For children of grade 2 of Gymnasium and grade 2 of Lyceum
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia travels to gymnasiums and lyceums carrying the Caterina Cornaro Museum Kit, a portable educational kit which includes material related to the life of Caterina Cornaro, the last queen of Cyprus (1472-1489). The Museum Kit is designed in a way to be transferred and to be utilised readily by education professionals.
The loaned educational material included in the Museum Kit offers the capability to students of grade 2 of Gymnasium and grade 2 of Lyceum to perform roles, to play and to create by collaborating with their fellow classmates. The key intention of the educational programme is for the Museum to enter the classroom and for the children–‘visitors’ to experience museum education in their own familiar space. The students are given the opportunity to study the material and to touch and use replicas of objects linked with the life of Caterina Cornaro as these are presented in the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia’s gallery bearing the queen’s name. Simultaneously, through their collaboration the students will encounter aspects of this historic personality to comprehend the role of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Medieval Period, always remaining within the context of creative expression.
The loan of the Museum Kit is free of charge, and its transport is a liability of the educators borrowing it.
The Caterina Cornaro Museum Kit is available for collection by interested schools from the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia. To arrange the loan, educators can contact the Department of Educational Programmes of the Museum, T.: +357 22661475 / E.: education@leventismuseum.org.cy
With the conclusion of the loan period, the Museum Kit is returned to the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia (15-17 Ippokratous Street, Laiki Geitonia, 1011 Nicosia).
