History in rhyme

History in rhyme

For students of the 1st-3rd grades of Gymnasium
With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth

In the new educational programme of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, ‘History in rhyme’, the aim is for students to engage meaningfully
with the Greek language, as well as the Cypriot dialect. Through an interactive tour of the Museum’s Ottoman Period and British Rule Galleries, students will gain knowledge about the history of Nicosia while encountering poetry – specifically, the poems of the award-winning poet and author Evridiki Papadopoulou.
They will discover important aspects of our history through the following main themes: ‘Cypriot hospitality’, ‘British administration & The island’s inhabitants’,
‘Jewellery’, ‘The city & The Women’s Bazaar’ and ‘Struggles for freedom’. Using objects and poems found in themed boxes, students will create their own poems,
aiming to highlight and preserve the traditions of our country – an essential part of which is the Cypriot dialect as an expression of our long-standing history.
