The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia presents the temporary exhibition Three Photographic Trails Nicosia: People and Places

Part 1: 1878-1950.

The first part of the trilogy includes postcards and photographic material by the first photographers from 1878 to 1950. The photographs were taken either by prominent photographers who visited the island from the late 19th century onwards or by professional Cypriot photographers who captured everything that made an impression on them.

Part 2: 1950-1960.

The second part of the trilogy focusses mainly on photographic material from the 1950s until the early 1960s. Let’s follow the photographic trail step by step to recognise a city that became Europeanised as it began to adopt new models in laying the foundations of its contemporary version.

Part 3: 1960-2004.

The final part of the exhibition trilogy presents photographic aspects of Nicosia from the Museum’s ‘To Mati’ Photographic Archive and at the same time brings to light contemporary photographic evidence from members of the Cyprus Photographic Society – Nicosia Branch and other lovers of the art of photography who have attempted to ‘illustrate’ the capital city.

The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia ‘scores a goal’ into culture with the presentation of its unique exhibition On the Field: Football – History – Nicosia.

This new temporary exhibition reveals the history of football in Cyprus, having at its core the capital of the island, Nicosia, from the beginning of colonialism until the 1960s.

Chora – Ioannis Kissonerghis

The Chora – Ioannis Kissonerghis exhibition presents views of Nicosia, the painter’s beloved birthplace.

It is a tribute to the Nicosian Kissonerghis, a man who left his indelible mark on the city with his personal manner. Places, streets, monuments and spaces which are illustrated in his works are identified with postcards and photographs from the rich Photographic Archive of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.
