Nicosia – Photographic Trails / Parallel activity within the framework of the temporary exhibition Sector 2: Nicosia
15.04 – 24.05.26 / House of Cyprus
The photography exhibition presents a unique chronicle of the city of Nicosia as it unfolded through the camera lens from 1878 to 1990. The photographs, drawn from the Archive of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, constitute a valuable visual testimony that captures the journey and transformation of the capital
over time – a journey that takes on a special symbolism, as it is displayed at the House of Cyprus, a vibrant cultural hub in the heart of Athens.
Arranged in chronological order, the photographs reveal the social, political and cultural shifts that have shaped the city. Each image serves as a carrier of memory
and emotion – a bridge between the past and the present, inviting the viewer to explore, remember and redefine their relationship with the city’s history.
This photographic ‘trail’ is a brief prologue to a broader exhibition narrative, that of the temporary exhibition Sector 2: Nicosia of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, which has been co-organised with the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and is part of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. The exhibition is being hosted from 11 March to 24 May 2026 at the Tobacco Factory in Athens and is held under the auspices of the Hellenic Parliament, with the support of the House of Cyprus.
The exhibition Sector 2: Nicosia sheds light on the history of the Green Line and highlights the city’s multiple facets, evoking memories and narratives that continue to affect the contemporary identity of Nicosia. This temporary exhibition is being shown both in Nicosia and Athens, creating a meaningful cultural and historical dialogue between the two capitals.
The exhibition Nicosia – Photographic Trails welcomes you and invites you to travel in your imagination through the streets and neighbourhoods of Nicosia. It will remain open to the public until 24 May 2026.
