Messages on Metal: A Timeless Dialogue with Cyprus

Alpha Bank Cyprus and the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia present the new exhibition Messages on Metal: A Timeless Dialogue with Cyprus,
which will be hosted at the Museum from 16 October 2026 to 10 January 2027.

The exhibition features part of Alpha Bank’s internationally renowned Numismatic Collection in dialogue with representative objects from the Museum’s Collection
of Cypriot Coins, creating a timeless dialogue in the world of numismatics.

As part of the exhibition, the Museum invites school groups to an interactive and experiential journey into the world of coins. Through observation and discovery games, educational stations, group activities and interactive digital applications, students will explore the exhibits and discover the stories and messages hidden in their images, symbols and inscriptions.

What can a small piece of metal tell us about a king, a god, a myth or an entire era? How can a coin tell us about the power, society, religion, economy
and identity of an era?

Through a different approach to history, students will learn about the evolution of the coin, approach it as a historical and cultural artefact, and decode its images, symbols and inscriptions. At the same time, they will explore Cypriot coinage and Cyprus’s place in the wider Mediterranean region.

The activities are adapted according to the age of the students and encourage observation, critical thinking, cooperation and active participation.

Come and follow the traces of coins, decode their messages and discover the stories that travelled with them through the centuries!
