Talking about ‘difficult history’ with the help of technology

Talking about ‘difficult history’ with the help of technology

07.04.25

19.30-20.30

In countries with painful or contested histories, similar to Cyprus, public discussion of past events is a challenging process,
even within cultural spaces such as museums.

This lecture has two objectives: first, to present cases in which technology was used to discuss ‘difficult history’ issues in museums
and exhibition spaces abroad, as well as in projects conducted by researchers at the CYENS Centre of Excellence;
and second, to present the process of creating the ‘CYENSverse’ project, which is currently part of the temporary exhibition
Sector 2: Nicosia at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia.

This project utilises virtual reality technology to transport us to a section of the Green Line that has been largely inaccessible since 1963.

Speakers:
Dr Kleanthis Neokleous, Head of the ITICA research group, CYENS Centre of Excellence
Dr Antigone Heraclidou, Senior Research Associate, Museum Lab, CYENS Centre of Excellence
