How do coins tell the stories of the societies that created them? What do their images, symbols and inscriptions reveal about the power, identity and values of each era?

The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and Alpha Bank invite the public to a specially designed guided tour of the temporary exhibition Messages on Metal. A Timeless Dialogue with Cyprus. Through 136 selected coins from different periods and geographical regions, visitors will discover the fascinating history of coinage and its enduring connection with Cyprus. Following the exhibition’s three thematic sections – ‘Transactions’, ‘Narration’ and ‘Symbolism’ – the guided tour explores the role of coins not only as a means of exchange, but also as carriers of history, culture and collective memory. It also highlights Cyprus’s place within the political, economic and cultural networks of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The tour will be conducted by Dr Dimitra I. Tsangari, Head of Cultural Collections and Archives, Curator of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection and Mrs Eleni Zapiti Curator of the Gold Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery.
